My project is shot on the theme of 'Old and New' by using the theme 'Broken'. By breaking the watch it shows that something that is new, quickly becomes old. The Broken theme of my scanogram could represent Relationships, Dreams or anything that you could relate to.

To create the Scanogram: 

1. I first had to get two watches and smash them up into bits and pieces. 
2. Then collect all of the broken watch pieces on a piece of paper
3. Lay all of the watch pieces on the Scanogram facing downwards so that it scans the correct side of the watch parts.
4. Then i sorted out the order i wanted the watches placed to decide which looked better
5. Lastly i scanned the watch parts with the top of the scanner open to get the ideal black background

For the brief the theme was 'Old and New'. For my shoot i chose to do a Scanogram of a broken watch in the theme of Broken. I chose this because i thought that it was a unique idea that couldn't be more different to everyone else. I feel like i have met my project plan because i feel like the shoot couldn't have gone much better in the fact that the Scanogram looks how i imagined it to look like. The only problem i faced which was easily overcome was breaking the watches, this was because it required using a hammer and making noise. However with being in a separate room it wasn't much trouble.

If i was to do this shoot again  i would probably just use one watch instead of two. This is because using two watches i felt made the shoot look to varied. By using one watch (maybe a bigger watch) would make the photo look more specific. If i was to do this project again i would definitely do the same theme of shoot again. I would argue that using a bigger watch would show more detail of all the watch parts. This is because i like the effect and the amount of detail that is shown in the scanogram.

I like the fact that every little spec of detail is shown on the black background. I tried doing a shoot on a white background but it wasn't as effective as the black.

Anton Corbijn shot images using a black and white film. If you look closely on the persons face, you can see that it is slightly speckled. The black and white film makes the images look like a fill grain and i recreated this using photoshop.

Before Edit

 The First step was to add a new layer to the photo

Next, change the layer name to something to do with the image. I was creating a film grain so i changed the layer name to 'Film Grain'

Then go to Image - Ajustments - Black and White

There is no need to edit the colors because the image is in black and white, whereas if the image was in color then you would need to edit the colors to get the right colours in the photo

Next, Go to Layer - Fill. Then Change the 'Use' to 50% Grey and then click OK

Then click on the drop down menu for 'Mode' and then click 'Overlay'

 Then go to 'Filter' - Noise - Add Noise

Then Lastly Vary the amount of Fill Grain you would like in your photo, and click the Preview Button to keep checking the amount you have added. Then click on the box 'Monochromatic'. This is because the image is in black and white.
If the image was in Colour then you wouldn't click that box because it is specifically designed for black and white images.

This is the final image. As you can see there is a speckled tone on the models face, that is the fill grain.

To create this image i took a variety of shots of my model in the studio. The first step to take a successful photo was to get all of the equipment that was necessary. I used a Soft box on the left hand side of his face whilst i got a fellow peer to hold up another light to get the correct amount of light on the models face. The model also held a reflector to reflect the light onto his face to highlight all the details on on side of his face. I also thought of an idea to hold the light above his head to create a strip of light on the right side of his face which would make it look more effective.
I then Uploaded the photo onto Photoshop and uploaded a quote of the models preference onto his face and cropped out some of the quote to

Bio

My Name is Michael Bamber and i am 17 years old. For the exhibition i am going to shoot shallow depth of field photos in a landscape area. The reason why i am doing this is to focus the attention of the viewers on the focused object in the photo. I would argue that this would be attractive to viewers because it draws your attention to the focused object and the unfocused background becomes secondary. I'm planning to shoot my photo in black and white, as this will interpret the idea of the exhibition (Old and New).

Vignette
Vignettes happen naturally when more light reaches the center of an image than is reaching the edges. Although you can change an image into a vignette style by using Photoshop. 
Optical vignetting occurs in all lenses. Depending on the optical design of the lens, it can be quite strong on some lenses, while being weak on others. It can commonly be seen with wide angle lenses and those used with wide open apertures. 
Physical vignetting is caused by a something stopping light from hitting the sensor. It can be caused by anything preventing the light from coming into the sensor. For e.g. A filter.




Cyanotype
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print.

The cyanotype process can be created by:

Mixing chemicals
The cyanotype is made up of two solutions.

• Potassium ferricyanide and Ferric ammonium citrate are mixed with water separately.
• The two solutions are then blended together

Preparing the canvas

• Paper, card, textiles or any other naturally absorbent material is coated with the solution and dried in the dark.

Printing the cyanotype

• Objects or negatives are placed on the material to make a print. The cyanotype is printed using UV light, such as the sun, a light box or a UV lamp.

Processing and drying

• After exposure the material is processed by simply rinsing it in water. A white print emerges on a blue background.
• The final print is dried and admired.

Solarization
Solarization is used to create extreme cases of overexposure but is known as an effect that is applied in a darkroom to black and white images. The visual effect of a solarization is that it inverts the image to make it look like back to front. So the white an black in the photograph is switched around. This is to make a mono photograph look like a cross between a positive and a negative image. Inverting an image is a common process used on photoshop in modern days so Solarization is not as common.

Polaroid
Polaroid cameras don't look modern when it comes to camera. They are designed to be like old fashioned cameras which still take good colorful pictures swell as black and white. As you can see from the photo below, the picture is still colorful, however the color is not as dramatic and as vibrant and the modern photos.

For my project i plan to shoot at Preston College. For my project i plan to create a scanogram and using the theme of 'Broken' by scanning an old watch that has been smashed up.  This is created by using a scanner and putting various objects onto the scanner and scanning it. This is a great way to shoot objects because it shows a lot of detail within the objects. The reason i have chosen to do scanography is because i think that it is a bit different to what other people might be doing. I have researched different types of scenography. In creating scanograms, you can scan objects like the photo below, however you could do something more creative and slide objects or parts of your body across the scanner. Another idea is to have a theme to what your scanning.

Photographers

Matt Wisniewski

Wisniewski's pictures are very unique and different. His work is made by using photos of landscapes, the sea, forests, patterns etc, then using a photo of a model and collaging them together. Quite often he likes to transform the models hair or part of their face into different objects and shape it into the same as his face would be. Wisniewski said that he likes them because it looks 'pretty'. I like his work because he is very Creative and i like the use of imagination that he puts into his photos. The models on most of his photos are shot in front of a white background, however some of them are collaged different so that the landscape is in the background and the face is merged in.

David Samuel Stern

These images are made by weaving together two photographic prints of the same subject. These are known by photographers as Joiners. They are an attempt to join portraits with a sort of uniqueness that comes across as a blurry effect that makes it look like the subject in the photo is in two different settings at the same time. By making these joiners it gives the effect of a slow shutter speed that catches their movement as they move their head from side to side.

Stephanie Rubiano

Stephanie Rubiano’s love for nature and Victorian photography becomes easy to see due to  her  collages, which are shown in shadow boxes. She also likes to leave little funny and poetic texts in her portraits. 

Stephanie Rubiano lives and works in Texas. After working as an environmental scientist for 5 years, she gave a twist to her career and became a fulltime artist. Her works have been shown in galleries throughout America.

Michael Weber

Michael Webers photography is quite unique. This is because he makes the perfect scenery photos and illuminates them to make every little detail visible. I would argue that he's really creative in what he shoots. I would argue that a lot of his work is edited on Photoshop. This is because the colors in his photos are very luminous and rant natural. It looks like a lot of Hue/Saturation has been added to these photos.  

Jennifer Loeber

I would argue that Jennifer Loeber is a good and colorful photographer. She likes to shoot young people and mainly naked pictures of men and women. I would say her work is quite explicit in the way that she shoots a lot of people with their clothes off.

Installation

Installation

Installation is using three-dimensional (3D) objects that are designed to transform the perception of a space. Installation needs imagination in order to see a project before it has been created or even designed. It is made to look like so many different things including wildlife or a creative deign.
